Chassis Lead

I design and fabricated the chassis of the Brown Formula Racing FSAE racecar during the 2016-2017 season. In addition to raising the engine to accommodate a new oil system, I set out with the goal of increasing the torsional stiffness of the car while reducing or maintaining the total weight.

The Team

Brown Formula Racing is a team of 30 students who design, built and race a formula style racecar. We compete at the FSAE Competition against teams from 120 schools from across the globe.

My Role

I led BFR as Chassis Lead in 2017 and then as Co-Captain and Drivetrain Lead in 2018. As Chassis Lead I improved the stiffness of the frame and completed manufacture nearly a month before the previous year to help the team finish the final event in the FSAE competition for the first time in 5 years earning 44th out of 120 teams. As Co-Captain I led the team to optimize the car to be simple and robust and allow for productive tuning and testing. Our hard work paid off at the FSAE Michigan competition where we finished 26th overall including 13th in Acceleration and 15th in Endurance.
